LANDLORDS! Changes to Right to Rent Checks

The Home Office has released updated guidance for landlords’ right to rent checks, effective June 21, 2024. This guidance applies to all residential landlords in England. Key updates include:

  • Procedures for right to rent checks for EEA citizens and their non-EEA family members with pre-settled status under the EUSS.
  • Details on the Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology’s (DSIT) role in accrediting IDSPs and maintaining certification under the UK Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework (UKDIATF).
  • Clarifications on follow-up checks for holders of short-dated Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) and the Home Office’s shift to online immigration status evidence (eVisa).
  • Inclusion of consular birth certificates in List A, Group 2, item 1 of the acceptable documents list.
